Mac Printing: How to Save a Single-Sided Printing Preset

To print single-sided on a Mac, open the print menu (Cmd+P), select Print using system dialog (bypassing Chrome/Adobe menus), expand Printer Options, and click the (i) next to Finishing. Change the print style to 1-sided, then go to the Presets dropdown at the top to select Save Current Settings as Preset so you can easily use it next time.

By default, macOS often sets print jobs to double-sided. Because individual applications (like Google Chrome or Adobe Acrobat) use their own custom print menus, you must bypass them and use the macOS Native System Print Dialog to permanently change this setting.

Follow the steps below to switch to single-sided printing and save it as a permanent preset in macOS Sequoia and other modern versions.

Step 1: Access the Mac System Print Dialog

To change default printer behaviors, you must bypass third-party browser or application print windows:

  1. Press Cmd + P (or click File > Print) within your app.
  2. Look for the system link. For example, in Google Chrome:
    • Click More Settings in the print sidebar.
    • Scroll to the bottom and click Print using system dialog...

Step 2: Save Your "Single-Sided" Preset

  1. Set your destination: In the system print window, choose your target printer (e.g., SecurePrint).
  2. Open printer options: Scroll down and click to expand Printer Options (or click Show Details if you only see a simplified menu).
  3. Change to 1-sided printing: Click the Information icon (i) next to Finishing. Locate the Print Style dropdown and change it from 2-sided Printing to 1-sided Printing.
  4. Store settings for future use: Scroll back up to the Presets dropdown at the top of the menu and select Save Current Settings as Preset...
  5. Name the preset: Name your new preset "Single-Sided Printing". Set it to be available for All Printers, select Print Job Preset as the type, and click OK.

Success: For all future print jobs, you can simply select your new Single-Sided Printing preset directly from the Presets dropdown to avoid double-sided prints automatically.
