Substitute Access in Clever

Clever has released a feature allowing teachers to generate a substitute badge which gives substitutes limited access to the teacher pages. You can print this badge in the Clever portal under Pages > Teacher Pages

Teacher Experience

Teachers can provide access to substitutes so they can access their resources and Teacher Page by following the steps below:

  1. Log in to your Clever Portal.
  2. Navigate to Pages > Teacher Pages on the left side of your Clever Portal.
  3. Click on the Teacher Page you want to provide the substitute access to.
  4. In the top right-hand corner, click Share with substitute.

  1. This will take you to a preview of what the substitute will see when they log in with their Badge. You will see in the image below that Google is greyed out. For security purposes, the subset of “restricted impersonation” apps will not be accessible.

  1. To generate a Sub Badge that will provide login access for the substitute, click Create Substitute Badge in the top right-hand corner and then Badge will download to your computer. This Badge will expire in 5 days.

Substitute Experience

Substitutes will scan their Sub Badge to access Clever and will be limited to viewing only the Teacher Page that the teacher provided them access to. From there, they can log in to and use any applications available on that page as the main teacher. For security reasons, certain "restricted impersonation" apps will not be accessible to substitutes, but students will still be able to use these apps from their own Clever Portal.

 

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Can subs use a Badge to access/log into their Chromebook?

  • Not at this time, no. We recommend providing guest access to a device and then having a sub go to clever.com/badges.

What if a sub’s device does not have a camera?

  • At this time, Sub Badges are only available as QR codes, so the sub’s device must have some sort of camera to scan the Badge.

How should my teachers provide the Sub Badge to their substitute?

  • We suggest including it with their sub plans!

Will subs be able to access everything the teacher can in the third party app?

  • Yes, any applications on the Teacher Page will be accessible to the sub, and the sub will be logged into the application as the main teacher.

Can I have the Sub Badge be accessible for shorter/longer than 5 days?

  • At this time, the Sub Badge is set to 5 days for security reasons. A teacher can void the Badge at any point after the substitute is done using it. We’re exploring allowing this to be customizable in the future!

A teacher is unexpectedly absent. How could I, as an administrator, generate a Sub Badge for them?

  • Administrators can generate Substitute Badges at any time by impersonating into a teacher’s Clever Portal.

Can I, as an administrator, see when a sub accesses Clever?

  • Coming soon! We’ll be surfacing this information in the administrator “login logs” in the future.

Will this be a paid feature?

  • No – the Substitute Access will remain a free feature!
